Nehemiah ch 6

Alastair speaks on Nehemiah ch 6

Building for God’s Glory.

  • “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood… but against the power of this dark world” Ephesians 6:12
  • 1 Peter 5:8 “… Like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour”
  • 2 Corinthians 11:14

1. Humble 6:15

  • Nehemiah was no “fat head” looking glory for himself.
  • v9b – prayer is the test of who we are.
  • 1 Peter 5:6 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand…”

2. Alert 6:1-9

  • 1-4 – The angle of light approach.
  • Nehemiah was not mindless and clueless as they tried to distract him or kill him!
  • Times we must say NO!
  • “Planned neglect” – putting aside the unimportant or less important for His priorities.
  • v 5-9 – the roaring lion approach.
  • “Unsealed letter” – to be read by others – to hurt him hard.
  • “Nothing like what you are saying is happening: you are just making it up out of your head”

3. Focus 6:10-19

  • Shemaiah was a false prophet “bought” by the enemy v12-13
  • Nehemiah kept his focus on God and His word.

Sermon: My hope is build on nothing less. Alastair speaks from Nehemiah 5

External enemies helped unite the people in Chapter 4
But now- internal conflict threatened to divide and destroy the people- “Sometimes we are the greatest threat to us”
The answer:-
Conviction of sin
Confess the sin
Repent of the sin
Restitution for the sin

The Truth… the whole truth… and nothing but the truth. Matthew 5
